About
We believe that a strong democracy belongs to everyone. We specialise in practical civics and citizenship training for adults in New South Wales, providing groups with the tools they need to navigate the Australian political system with confidence. Whether you are leading a community group or looking to enhance your own understanding, our mission is to ensure that no voice is left behind due to a lack of information.
Non-Political & Outcome-Focused
We are strictly non-political. VoiceUp does not advocate for any specific party, candidate, or agenda, because we believe that no single cause is greater than another. Our role is not to tell you how to vote, but to ensure you understand how the system works so you can make the right decision for yourself.
We exist to level the information gap. By providing clear, accessible education on our democratic processes, we aim to decrease informal votes and transform the act of voting from a chore into a motivated, meaningful choice. When people understand the power of their ballot, they are inspired to use it.

Why We Started
VoiceUp was founded to address a growing crisis in civic literacy. In an era of rapid-fire digital content, misinformation often fills the void where factual knowledge should be. We saw a clear need to debunk myths about the Australian voting process and provide a “source of truth” for those who feel overwhelmed by the complexities of government.
Our journey began with a simple goal: to close the knowledge gap that leads to thousands of excluded or “spoilt” ballots every election. We recognised that many Australians want to participate but feel disempowered by the jargon of politics. We started this platform to build motivation, foster transparency, and turn the “informal voter” into an informed participant.
Mission
Values
Clarity: We translate complex legal and political systems into plain, actionable English.
Empowerment: We believe information is the key to personal and community agency.
Inclusion: Our training is designed to reach everyone, especially those who missed out on traditional civic education.

FUN FACT
Why are there sausage rolls at the top of the page?
This is known as the “Democracy Sausage”! In 2016, “Democracy Sausage” was officially named the Australian Word of the Year, but its history goes back decades. Since voting became compulsory in 1924, election day has transformed into a community festival. The sausage sizzle is a uniquely Australian tradition that symbolizes the “fair go” and the community spirit of our elections. It reminds us that while politics can be serious, the act of coming together to shape our future is something to celebrate. At VoiceUp, we want to keep that sizzle alive by making sure every voter feels welcome at the table.
